A DVD about country walks has put the spotlight on Whitchurch and Laverstoke.
BBC Radio Solent presenter David Allen joined a film crew from Switched on Multimedia to create Exploring Hampshire, which features a series of walks through some of the county’s most beautiful countryside.
Following the success of his first walking DVD, My Dorset, Mr Allen was filmed walking along five routes for the second DVD, including one from Whitchurch to Laverstoke along the banks of the River Test.
The second walk on the DVD begins at the Silk Mill in Whitchurch where Mr Allen met Stephen Bryer, manager of the mill, before heading along the Mill Trail to Freefolk and Laverstoke.
He then headed back over the hills to catch up with Graham Burgess, of the Whitchurch Millennium Meadow Trust.
Mr Allen said: “I took advice from listeners who gave me suggestions about the best places to visit. So many people are getting into walking and with so much beautiful countryside on our doorstep it’s not surprising that it’s growing in popularity.”
The other walks include a visit to Jane Austen’s former home in Chawton, author Gilbert White’s home in Selborne and then to the coast at Lang-stone Harbour.
The Exploring Hampshire DVD costs £10.99 plus £1 postage and packaging and is available online at exploringhampshire.co.uk.
